It's almost silent, but in the distance, Arthur's voice can be made out if you put your mind to it.

"...Merlin, I hardly need your help to figure out this... voice... thing." A short silence, and then, much, much louder, he continues: "No, I am aware of which direction I am supposed to speak in. The question is, do you have any idea--"

  "You have reached the Blackberry telephone of Prince Arthur Pendragon. Leave a voice or text message after the 'beep', and I'll get back to you. Please don't try my room phone, as it is unfortunately deceased."

"Francine and Morgana and I are going for a tour of the island, then hitting Chilly Boulder for ice cream, probably. Just wanted you to know that I'm looking out for her, like you asked me to." A pause. "Don't worry, we won't go jumping off dorms or flying or stampeding teal deer. Maybe we'll hit Fight Club, though... bye!"

There was a spell of about five minutes where Arthur simply futzed with the device in a desperate attempt to get it to do something that wasn't blinking.

"Arthur? Merlin turned me into a mouse. Are you two dating? He kept calling you 'his prince'. Did I mention that he turned me into a mouse? If you're dating, I would have preferred knowing that before I... invited you up for waffles. Not that it wasn't fun, but -- I don't think I deserve having been turned into a mouse for a day. Call me. My number's 555-WDSN." A pause, as if he'd pulled the phone a way to hang up, then decided on something else to say. "Y'know, if you wouldn't mind giving me some more training with a sword this week... Want to meet up on Wednesday, maybe? I don't have class that day. Or Thursday. Anyway, I'll talk to you later." Beat. "A mouse."

Arthur did not in fact get (or found himself able to respond to) the voicemail until late that evening, when he was already getting ready for bed.

He stared at his phone for about two minutes before valiantly making an attempt to answer.

"ABSOLUTELY NOT," he informed the phone, then remembered Reno's spiel about not shouting into it, "We're not, he's something of an idiot, and I'll have words with him. As--"

Arthur eyed his phone. It appeared to be dead. Lovely.

At the hour when Romeo usually took a break to go practice with Arthur, he was at a point of tipsiness that found him too addled to want to hit anything, and not drunk enough to go to the Salle anyhow out of badly misplaced pride.

Hence, phone message. If you didn't know Romeo he sounded almost sober.

"Arthur, it's Romeo. I'm busy at the shop -- last day an' everything -- so I won't be in the Salle today. I'll be there next week. I think. My portal out is to come that afternoon. Don't - don't miss me too much."

And then there was some barely audible giggling as Romeo hung up.

After a short while, Arthur left a message in return. He'd figured out how and he'd use it.

"Romeo," he said, "Continue to send me voicemails the likes of this one, and I can assure you that won't be a problem."

After about five minutes, Arthur came to the conclusion that mead and texting didn't work out (which didn't mean that Dinah didn't get a asdlkfhaddvvdsa;; message, at first) so he called.

Clever idea, that.

"WE ARE HAVING A PARTY," he yelled, having forgotten just about all Reno had taught him about phones, "TELL KATINA TO COME KILL THINGS WITH ME! OUR MEAD IS BETTER THAN YOURS!"

He finished it off with a truly fratboyesque (if overly weedinated) whoop and turned it off.

As it turned out, Morgana was capable of receiving and sending messages on her phone.

"Arthur? It's Morgana," she said, since her voice might not give it away today. "I...thank you, for the offer of clothing. I believe Layla was able to give me enough to keep myself decent. I assure you, I've been careful and..."

There was a long pause, the sound of her breathing the only sign that she hadn't accidentally hung up.

"I'm sorry that I laughed when this happened to you," she said. "I understand now how uncomfortable you must have been, and I realize now that I was probably not much help. I just wanted to let you know that."
