Camelot stood peaceful as it sometimes did: no sorcerers had been burned in about a forthnight, there were no bandits getting particularly close to the city proper, and there were no real problems with the food or water.

Inside one room, the Lady Catrina and her servant busied themselves with something particularly noxious-smelling. And a trinket. But that was hardly of any import just yet. After all, that was their business.

In the morning, the knights would head out for training. In the afternoon, Uther would recieve citizens in need of mediation or favours in his audience chamber. The markets would bustle, and the farmers would work.

Yes. It was just another day in Camelot.

Ah, Merlin's sneaky plan was halfway completed.

...okay, so the sex hadn't actually been in the plan, but it worked so he could investigate this before telling Arthur what was going on. No need to make the poor man more upset about his father.

So, that would be when he very carefully slunk out of the bed and grabbed the one small, slightly random for the era mirror with which to spy on the Lacy Catrina one floor below them.

"Oh god!" And down went the mirror. That poor, poor mirror.

"Um." Merlin offered a nervous little smile. "Hello, Arthur!"

"And there is one," Merlin assured him. And then thought about the reason and how it sounded. "...I was spying on Lady Catrina."

Gaius's Chambers, Sunday Morning

Date: 2010-09-05 08:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] camelotfolk.livejournal.com
The old physician wasn't best pleased with the whole situation. If anything, he was more jittery and worried than he'd ever been, flicking through books and all.

"If this is true, we must tell the king at once."

"Do you think he'll listen?" Merlin asked, making a face.

Gaius busied himself with emptying the last of his tea as soon as he could. "He must," he said. "King Uther and I have a long history. He will listen to me, surely."

"She has disguised herself as a lovely lady. Do not underestimate feminine wiles, Merlin. Uther has been alone for quite some time." He shut the book in front of him. "But if she truly is a troll, we have no time to waste."

And he put deed to word as he sped out of the room with all due haste. The kind a man his age could manage, at least.

Not all that long afterward, Francine came knocking at the door; it wasn't the only place she was likely to find Merlin, but it was the safest one for asking questions like How did your stake-out go? so she hoped he was here.

"Merlin?"

"Francine!" Merlin waved her further into the room, putting away the book he'd been looking at.

Door: shut. Francine: trying not to trip over....everything. Gaius' workshop had a lot of everything to avoid tripping over.

"How did your stake-out go?"

To say that Katchoo was not fond of having to go without smoking her cigarettes (or the numerous awkward questions that would ensue if she did) was also a gross understatement, and tended to put her in a mood that was dangerously close to foul, if not outright cantankerous.

That mood had her wandering away toward sight of the training grounds, and . . . frowning at what she saw. She had to admit it was slightly more productive than her methods of working off a mood (because she couldn't be unconvinced that Arthur was in one), but still . . . ouch.

"So nice to see someone's more chipper than I am," Katchoo drawled; her fingers were twitching, and the skirts of her dress were rather rumpled in places where she'd been twisting at the fabric in futile attempts to get her mind off the nicotine withdrawal.

Damn him for that low pitch. Don't think she hadn't tried to hit it.

"Except somehow," Katchoo noted, drumming her fingertips against her opposite elbow, "There was a tragic lack of comedy pratfalls."

She was not so charitable as to call that look irritable, and yet she still couldn't resist.

He really was remarkably good at it. He could give lessons.

And yet Katchoo couldn't help cracking the tiniest bit of a smile. "Aw, geez, I've actually missed watching you froth in person."
