Arthur's Chambers, Camelot, Sunday Night/Monday Morning

Arthur had spent entirely too much of the past week being badgered by a physician and a physician's apprentice about staying in bed to heal from his stabwound. (It wasn't even that big a wound; he could've been up and about ages ago)

Only that day, he'd been allowed to go about the castle again, picking up his work. After some time spent bedridden, it was both as nice as he'd expected, and far more exhausting. And so tonight (or this morning; it wasn't light yet, but it felt closer to sunup than sundown) he was sprawled back over his bed, enjoying the last fading scraps of inebriation from the wine drunk that evening, and with a clingy wizard sprawled, as per usual, over his chest.

Sigh. Merlin was such a girl.

At least that made it possible for Arthur to grope-- well, grab a hold of Merlin's hips, at least. "Oh, you're hardly one to talk," he said, trailing his fingers over the skin and up for a moment.

No point in slow, middle-of-the-night sex without taking your time in several respects.

"Next time we're in another dimension, remind me to keep my phone on 'record' around you for just--" The slightest flick of his thumb against a nipple, "Five--" And again, "Minutes."

"Because things--" That was cheating, Arthur. Stop cheating. Merlin cleared his throat, glaring down at him. "--things keep trying to kill us there."

"Even in Fandom?"

Arthur could do a significant amount of damage from down here. He... wasn't stopping.

"Zombies," Merlin pointed out. "Harpies. Those... lizard things."

"Hardly every time you complained, Merlin," Arthur said, patiently, while one of his hands made its way back downwards.

Look, given enough time to himself, he was going to start to get ideas.

Merlin shot him a look, pouring the oil out onto his fingers. "You complained too!"

"I did not," he said, rubbing at Merlin's stomach.

"Did so." Why did they always argue during this?

Merlin looked away, clearing his throat in embarrassment as he prepared himself as it were.

Arthur's eyebrows went up a little bit. "At least you've stopped arguing with me," he murmured, flicking his eyes down.

Passing over Merlin's 'as it were' and curling his hand around his other 'as it were' with a concentrated expression.

Which is why Merlin made a high-pitched noise. "I'm concentrating here!"

Arthur chuckled roughly under his breath. "I'm not stopping you," he murmured, then paused, glancing at Merlin's wrist again (but not letting go). He could have asked 'Are you sure?' but look, puppy did learn tricks eventually.

"You're--" Merlin waved at him with his free hand. "Distracting."

Arthur moved his hand.

Not very far.

Not very off, either. "Mhm."

"Distracting," he repeated, taking a breath as he attempted to concentrate on the task at hand.

Arthur smiled at him unrepentantly. "I could always lend a hand if you need it," he said, flattening his other one against the center of Merlin's chest, leaving it there for a moment.

"You're injured," Merlin teased. "Shouldn't let you overexert yourself."

Arthur snorted softly, letting go of Merlin's length - and watching the movements of his chest under his hand instead, the rhythmic breathing of it. "Playing nursemaid?"

"Oh, you know me..." He made a slight face as he added another finger.

Cracking a slight smile, he let his hand rub circles on Merlin's chest, meant to be soothing. "Unfortunately, yes."

"Do you go out of your way to be a prig about things?" Merlin asked with a small huff of laughter.

"What can I say," he said, lightly, and swatted Merlin's thigh gently with his other hand. "You bring out the best in me."

Oh, Arthur. You say the sweetest things. "I like to think I do, actually."
