On the Road in the Brecon Beacons, Wednesday

Arthur was still driving. He had yet to cause any accidents or collisions, although he'd probably killed his fair share of overconfident birds by now.

He wasn't, after all, going to stop driving because of a mad pigeon or something.

But nevermind that.

Driving around the countryside was getting to be oddly relaxing, once one got the hang of it.

That would be Francine's face in Katchoo's bosom or reasonable facsimile thereof every time a cow bird met the bodywork. "Tell me it's not on the windshield?"

About halfway into the afternoon, Arthur stopped the car by the side of the road.

In the middle of nowhere. (Well, all right, not too far from Abergavenny)

"Right, here's our stop."

"Very serious," Arthur said, glancing up from his work with the tent pole. "Come now, how long has it been since we went out into the woods?"

"I brought bedrolls," Arthur pointed out, cheerfully. "If you're that cold, you can always come on over. You do seem to enjoy sticking your limbs in my armpits."

Arthur gave the pole a good nudge to make sure it was standing right, then took a line himself and pulled it back. "You were just born an octopus."

Merlin took care of 'Are you serious,' so Francine went straight to the jugular with, "Are you crazy?"

"Ah, Francine," Arthur said, shooting her a quick smile. "Help Merlin gather firewood, will you?"

Ever willing to say yes when politely asked to do something, Francine had the "Okay..." out before she could formulate any other answer. Which was, after a beat, "...So that's a yes, then."

"We're just going camping," Arthur assured her. "If you're worried about the heat, Merlin's got that handled. I'm going hunting in a little while, so we will need that fire going."

Bulldozing was his speciality.

"Merlin brought space heaters?" Francine asked, even as she moved towards the firewood-gathering stage.

Someone didn't know about the keep-us-warm spell, having -- luckily for all concerned except maybe the wee bunny -- not been present the last time it was put into use.

"He came up with a heating spell when we were snowed in," Arthur said, helpfully, and trusted common decency and Francine's inherent Francineness not to extrapolate that to its inevitable conclusion.

Which made it a feat of great mental acuity that he forgot the other aspect of Francine's inherent Francineness, to whit, the ability to blather on without knowing she's being awkward. "Wow, I wish he'd shared. It would've been nice to have something besides a baby bunny to keep warm with."
