Room 325, Sunday Afternoon

Bored. Bored bored bored. A morning spent in the salle had not alleviated Arthur's enormous helping of boredom. He needed to distract himself. With no weapons allowed in the dorms, it had been a bit difficult (if not impossible, but he'd put it aside after a while) to work on Merlin's not-really-a-Christmas-present-anymore, so that was out, too.

He had already put Francine's sweater away as far as he could (it wasn't that he didn't appreciate the gesture. It was just that it wasn't... well, you know. He was trying to be nice, and it was decent craftsmanship, but it kept reminding him of Merlin's absurd obsession with items of clothing his mother had made), poked around the room, tried the Teevee (still not pleasant, especially without the distraction of someone in the room) and gone through the first chapter of Salammbo.

Nothing.

Which was why, by the time the middle of the afternoon rolled around, there was a dog sitting on Arthur's floor.

"Stay. Just-- no. Stay."

It was a very large swan, after all.

"Later, though." Yes. "Perhaps we could watch a normal movie in the meantime?"

"If you have any brilliant suggestions," he said, jovially, and shifted 'round so he could deposit his feet on the bed.

"Do you have any here?" Merlin asked, bringing in logic.

"I don't really keep any movies," he pointed out, "After all, I have books."

Which were far more interesting if one asked Arthur. Although nowhere near as easily enjoyed with company.

"...not even one?"

Arthur shrugged one helpless shoulder. "There's usually something on the teevee if you switch it on, right?"

He... really only watched with Merlin around.

"...true." He brightened up. "We could watch a cooking show!"

Arthur stared at him. "How much of a ~~gay~~ girl are you?"

"...they're fun."

"They're about cooking," Arthur told him, "Find the teevee thing in that drawer over there and see about something decent. Not cooking."

"Building?" Interior design wasn't 'building', Merlin.

Arthur rolled his eyes. "Try sports, Merlin."

"...You don't even know them here."

"You could find some hockey." Oh, please. Like Arthur hadn't looked into that. Or built a whole KKG meeting around it. "It's good and violent."

Merlin just sighed. "I'll look."

"You do that, and I'll eat."

It was shaping up to be a good afternoon after all. He took yet another bite of the swan and propped himself up against the cushions, looking a bit closer to content. "Anything spectacular happen today that I don't know about?"

"...I brought you a swan." A beat. "And Gawain didn't try to bite me when I hugged him this morning."

"Well, that's good," Arthur said, a little dryly. "His walking's coming along." Chew.

"...shouldn't he be more interested in learning to fly?"

"With those piddling wings of his?" Arthur said, shooting him a dry look. "Right now you'd be more good in the air with those flimsy little arms you've got."

"He'll be getting there!"

"But not right now, and we'll want him to be obedient when the time comes," he replied. "Brynmor?" The dog trotted up towards the edge of the bed.

One more animal in this menagerie and they would probably officially become That Gay Couple.

"Brynne is obedient!" For treats.

"Now she is."

Or Arthur being properly alpha dog. He was, strangely enough, quite good at it.

He gave Merlin a light shove with his foot at the same time he gave the dog a pet over the head.

He would be.

"Now that you've taken an interest," Merlin pointed out.
